La Festa di 2008 Wanderlust Syrah (03 Oct)

Ottobre é stato un mese in cui ho avuto molte esperienze interessante di vino. Come che tu sappi, sono andato su un viaggio maravigloso con Kaitlyn a Sacramento per assaggiare i vini a Bogle Vineyards. Nostro tempo a Bogle é stato romantico e piena di sorpresi. Il giorno dopo il nostro viaggio, ho avuto una festa alla casa coi miei amici per aprire la mia prima bottiglia di vino. Come che tu ricordassi, ho fatto vino con un gruppo di Crushpad e in Maggio ho volato a Napa per raccogliere i miei bottiglie. Beh durante l’estate, avevo voluto di avere una festa per assaggiare il mio vino coi i miei amici ma ho deciso di aspettare finche Ottobre cosi che potrei avere la festa quando la mia squadra (il Chicago Bears) avevano una partita su "Sunday Night Football." Fortunamente, tutti gli hanno piaciuto il mio vino perche la mia squadra hanno giocato terribile.

Sono grato perche non avevo assaggiato il vino dal mese di Maggio, pero il vino ha avuto un sapore come ha avuto in Maggio, anche dopo sei mesi. Alla festa, i miei amici hanno portato un po altri vini buoni. La lista ha incluso il seguenti:

• 2007 Muscat Canelli – Kendall Jackson (Sonoma)
• 2009 Malbec – Gascon (Mendoza, Argentina)
• 2005 Cabernet Savaugnion – St. Supéry (Napa)
• 2009 Pinot Noir – Estancia (Paso Robles)

Nuova York (08-10 Oct)

Beh il seguente fine di settimana, sono andato a Nuva York per celebrare il compleanno del mio amico Glenn. Lí, ho avuto un vino che era un po interessante mentre alla festa di pranzo con la sua famiglia a un ristorante italiano. La sua madre ha portato due bottiglie dalla casa e quello che mi piaceva di piu é stato un 2009 Chianti Ruffino da Italia. Sono stato sorpreso quanto era bello e lo raccomanderei…specialmente col cibo italiano. Il resto del fine di settimana, ho bevuto altri vini e altre bevande, pero sono stati niente valso ricordare.

Cinnabar Vineyards a Saratoga, CA (16 Oct)

Dopo del mio tempo a Nuva York, ho ritornato per un fine di settimana alla casa pero ancora si trattava di vino. Il sabato, Kaitlyn ed io, siamo andati un matrimonio al mezzogiorno pero la festa non era finche la notte. Cosí, abbiamo passato un po di tempo nel pomeriggio a Cinnabar Vineyards a Saratoga, CA. Cinnabar é uno dei miei vigneti favoriti nella area. Ogni anno, vado a Cinnabar almeno due e tre volte. Vivevo a Cupertino che é molto vicino a Saratoga. Cosí quando ho i amici in cittá o tempo libero (per quasi un’ora o piú) vado lá per assaggiare i loro vini.

La ho portato lá per vedere se lei piacerebbe i loro vini. Al primo, lei no gli piaceva i vini pero dopo di assaggiare il Mercury Rising, il migliore vino lá, lei ha cambiato la sua mente. Cosí, ho comprato una bottiglia, comé sempre.

Una Festa di Spremere Le Uve a La Honda, CA (17 Oct)

Il prossimo giorno, ho guidato (attraverso la pioggia) a La Honda, CA per incontrare il mio amico Koffi. Un po prima nel anno, Koffi mi ha chiesto se ho voluto fare di vino con lui e il suo gruppo dei amici. Dopo di fare il mio vino (2008 Wanderlust Syrah) avevo voluto fare un altro vino. Quando lui mi ha chiesto immediatamente ho soltato di gioia. Due settimana prima loro hanno vendemmiato le uve e adesso é stato il tempo per spremere le uve.

Questo era la mia prima volta spremendo uve per la mano e la esperienza era inestimabile. Anche se pioveva, il piú di tempo abbiamo un rifugio nel cortile. I suoi amici hanno portato cibo, vino, e durante la festa di spremere e dopo di quello, abbiamo avuto un buon tempo parlando, mangiando, e bevendo molti tipi di vini.

Anche alla festa, ho incontrato due uomini molto interessante. Uno uomo, si chiama Bob ed io abbiamo chiacchierato del suo tempo fuori dei Stati Uniti molti anni fa quando ha lavorato in Africa. Adesso, lui vive a California per sei mesi ed in Costa Rica per sei mesi. Perche di quello, lui puó parlare tre lingue – inglese, spagnolo, e francese. Quando lui ha incontrato Koffi (uno che puó parlare francese), Bob ha parlato francese con Koffi. Poi, Koffi ha menzionato che io potrebbe parlare spagnolo, e cosí lui ha guardato a me e ha cominciato parlare con me in spagnolo. É stato molto di grande effecto. Un piú tardi, stavo parlando con Bob e lui mi ha detto che ha un aeroplano e aveva cercando per qualcuno stare un compagno da quando lui passa sei mesi ogni anno in Costa Rica. Ne ho parlato con lui per quasi un’ora e ne sono diventato molto eccitato. Due giorni dopo di quello, sono andato al aeroporto di Palo Alto per vedere il suo aeroplano, pero non mi piaceva molto. Piú, adesso non sono pronto per essere un compagno in un aeroplano.

Anche alla festa, ho parlato con un uomo si chiama Dennis. Lui ed io abbiamo chiacchierato per cio che mi sembrava quasi un’ora della vita, le politiche, la storia, ed il vino. La conversazione con lui é stato una che non dimenticheró perche alla fine, lui mi ha dato uno dei complimenti il piú grande della mia vita. Basicamente, lui mi ha detto che sono una persona fantastica (con una mente aperto) e che dovrei correre per un ufficio politica. Lo ho ringrazato per il complemento ma ho rifiutato la opportunitá.

Il vaso piú grande (6.5 galloni) é il mio.

Quando sono uscito dalla festa, sono uscito coi 6.5 galloni di vino che guarderó per quasi 18 mesi prima di transformarlo in vino.

Healdsburg, CA & San Francisco, CA (23 Oct)

Il seguente sabato, Kaitlyn ed io siamo andati a Healdsburg per il giorno ed a San Francisco per la notte. A Healdsburg, abbiamo avuto il piacere di una degustazione di vino privato a Chateau Felice. É stato un evento molto unico perche il vigneto é stato venduto il giorno primo. Cosí Kaitlyn ed io (con un gruppo di sette donne) siamo stati le ultime persone per ricevere una degustazione al vigneto. I suoi vini sono stati buoni e interessante – le miscele e le storie dei vini sono stati differenti. Alla fine, abbiamo comprato due bottiglie di vino da dessert.

Chateau Felice

Quello notte, Kaitlyn ed io siamo andati a un ristorante a San Francisco con i miei amici (Marc e Christianne). Abbiamo portato nostra bottiglia di vino da Cinnabar per goderlo con la cena. Dopo della cena, Kaitlyn ed io abbiamo camminato nella pioggia intorno alla Piazza Unione a San Francisco. É stato una bella notte nella cittá e dopo di quasi 30 minuti nella pioggia abbiamo trovato un bar di vino chimato "Il Hidden Vine"…quello che Marc mi ha detto.

Lá, lei ha ordinato quattro vini da California per assaggiare ed io ho deciso per assaggiare due da Francia. Ho voluto di vedere la differenza fra i vini da California e quelli da Francia. Adesso, so che i vini da California hanno un naso piú profondo e piú dolce di quelli da Francia. I miei due vini da Francia hanno avuto un naso molto "skunky" ma il vino ha avuto un sapore abbastanza buono. Il miglior vino della notte era il ultimo del gruppo che lei ha avuto….un 2007 Malbec da Turchi Vineyards a Santa Barbara, CA. Sono stato sorpreso perche il suo naso é stato molto dulce e ha avuto molto frutta ma il vino é stato molto liscio e leggero – comé un morbido malbec. Spero che posso trovarlo un giorno nel futuro.

Ridge – Three Valleys – a Joya (24 Oct)

La domenica nella notte, quello stesso fine di settimana, sono andato a Joya a Palo Alto per la cena con Koffi. Joya é uno dei nostri posti favoriti per bevande ed antipasti. Quella notte, Joy hanno avuto un gruppo di musica dal vivo che toccavano musica di spagnolo. Lui ed io entrambi noi piacevano il cibo, la musica, ed il vino – uno dei miei favoriti, una miscela da Ridge. É stato un buon modo per terminare il mio mese di vino con amici.

The Wanderlust 2008 Syrah Party (Oct 03)

October was a month in which I had very interesting wine experiences. As you know, I went on a wonderful journey with Kaitlyn to Sacramento to taste the wines at Bogle Vineyards. Our time at Bogle was romantic and full of surprises. The day after our trip, I had a party at home with my friends to open my first bottle of wine. As you remember, I made wine with a Crushpad group and in May, I flew to Napa to pick up my bottles. Well during the summer, I wanted to have a party to taste my wine with my friends but I decided to wait until October so I could have the party when my team (Chicago Bears) had a game on "Sunday Night Football. Fortunately, everyone liked my wine because my team played terrible.

I am grateful because I had not tasted the wine since May, but it tasted like it had in May, even after six months. At the party, my friends brought a few other good wines. The list included the following:

New York (Oct 08-10)

Well, the next weekend, I went to New York to celebrate my friend Glenn’s birthday. There, I had a wine that was a bit interesting while at the lunch party with his family at an Italian restaurant. His mother brought two bottles from home and the one that I liked most was a 2009 Chianti Ruffino from Italy. I was surprised how good it was and I would recommend it … especially with Italian food. The rest of the weekend, I drank more wine and other drinks, but nothing was worth remembering.

Cinnabar Vineyards in Saratoga, CA (Oct 16)

After my time in New York, I came back for a weekend at home but it still involved wine. On Saturday, Kaitlyn and I went to a wedding at noon but the party was not until the evening. So, we spent some time in the afternoon at Cinnabar Vineyards in Saratoga, CA. Cinnabar Vineyards is one of my favorites in the area. Every year I go to Cinnabar at least two or three times. I used to live in Cupertino, which is very close to Saratoga. So when I have friends in town or free time (for about an hour or more) I go there to taste their wines.

I took her to see if she’d like their wines. At first, she did not like the taste of wines but after the Mercury Rising, the best wine there, she changed her mind. So, I bought a bottle, like always.

A Grapes Pressing Party in La Honda, CA (Oct 17)

The next day, I drove (through the rain) a La Honda, CA to meet my friend Koffi. A little earlier in the year, Koffi asked me if I wanted to make wine with him and his group of friends. After making my wine (2008 Wanderlust Syrah), I wanted to make another wine. When he asked me I immediately jumped at the chance. Two weeks before they had harvested the grapes, and now was the time to press the grapes.

This was my first time in pressing grapes by hand and the experience was priceless. Although it rained, the more time we have a refuge in the courtyard. His friends brought food, wine, and during the party to squeeze and after that, we had a good time talking, eating, and drinking many types of wines.

Also at the party, I met two very interesting men. One man, named Bob, and I talked of about his time outside the United States many years ago when he worked in Africa. Now he lives in California for six months and in Costa Rica for six months. Because of that, he can speak three languages – English, Spanish, and French. When he met Koffi (who can speak French), Bob spoke French with Koffi. Then, Koffi had mentioned that I could speak Spanish, and so he looked at me and started talking to me in Spanish. It was very impressive. A bit later, I was talking to Bob and he told me that he had an airplane and looking for someone to be a partner since he spends six months each year in Costa Rica. I spoke with him about it for nearly an hour and I became very excited. Two days after that, I went to the airport in Palo Alto to see his airplane, but I did not like it too much.  Plus, right now I’m not ready to be a partner in an airplane.

Also at the party, I spoke with a man named Dennis. He and I talked for what seemed like almost an hour about life, politics, history, and wine. The conversation with him was one I’ll never forget because in the end, he gave me one of the best compliments of my life. Basically, he told me that is an amazing person (with an open mind) and that I should run for political office. I thanked him for the compliment but I declined the opportunity.

When I left the party, I left with 6.5 gallons of wine that I will save for about 18 months before making it into wine.

Healdsburg, CA & San Francisco, CA (Oct 23)

The next Saturday, Kaitlyn and I went to Healdsburg for the day and to San Francisco for the night. In Healdsburg, we had the pleasure of a private wine tasting at Chateau Felice. It was a very unique event because the vineyard was sold the day before. So Kaitlyn and I (along with a group of seven women) were the last people to receive a tasting at the vineyard. The wines were good and interesting – wine blends and the stories about the wine were different. In the end, we bought two bottles of dessert wine.

That night, Kaitlyn and I went to a restaurant in San Francisco with my friends (Marc and Christianne). We brought our own bottle of wine from Cinnabar to enjoy with dinner. After dinner, Kaitlyn and I walked around in the rain around Union Square in San Francisco. It was a beautiful night in the city and after almost 30 minutes in the rain we found a wine bar named "The Hidden Vine"…one that Marc told me about.

There, she ordered four wines from California to taste and I decided to try two from France. I wanted to see the difference between wines from California and those from France. Now, I know that California wines have a nose more profound and sweeter than those from France. My two wines from France had a very "skunky" nose but the wine tasted pretty good. The best wine of the night was the last of the group that she had…a 2007 Malbec from Turchi Vineyards in Santa Barbara, CA. I was surprised because its nose was very sweet and very fruit but the wine was very smooth and light – like a soft malbec. Hopefully I can find it one day in the future.

Ridge – Three Valleys – Joya (Oct 24)

On Sunday night, that same weekend, I went to Joya to Palo Alto for dinner with Koffi. Joya is one of our favorite places for drinks and appetizers. That night, Joya had a live music group playing Spanish music. He and I both liked the food, music, and wine – one of my favorites, a Ridge blend. It was a good way to end my month of wine with friends.
