My Last Flight Before Truly Becoming Nomadic

My Last Flight Before Truly Becoming Nomadic

My wife and I had been planning to jump into the digital nomad world full-time for over a year. Once the calendar flipped to 2016, we only had 90 days until it became a reality. Needless to say, I didn’t get a chance to spend much time in the cockpit during this transition period given all the changes needed to make the dream a reality. In mid-January, my friend Mark visited us in Northern California for the first time. Like typical Bay Area “wet season” fashion, the weather was great for wine tasting but not flying. Yet, we were not […]

My Top “Digital Nomad” Office Locations From Around the World

UPDATED: November 7, 2022 One of the benefits of being a digital nomad is the freedom to whip out the laptop or make a client call from anywhere I want. Over the past several years, I’ve had the opportunity to work from locations all over the US and half of the globe (see a list of my digital nomad locations since 2011). But there are a few places in particular that were simply awesome places to call my office for a day, a week, or month. Here are my top spots since 2015: My Top Digital Nomad Office Locations from […]

Filling the 4-Year Gap: 2015 Photo Journal

In 2015, I returned to Asia for the first time since 2011, a year after my first international consulting trip for my business. This time I’d skip west across the pond to celebrate my honeymoon in Hong Kong and Vietnam. Throughout the year, I also found myself in Canada, Spain, and Italy…among a few other locales closer to home. But like most of my non-passport related New Year’s Days, I started the year in the cockpit. January 2015: San Francisco Bay Area Just about a week earlier, I completed and passed my checkride for my complex aircraft rating and I […]

Filling the 4-Year Gap: 2014 Photo Journal

If 2013 was all about skipping across continents and oceans to explore languages and cultures, then it’s safe to say that 2014 was all about family and friends. While I didn’t leave North America at all during 2014, I made the most of my time on my home continent. From Cali to Hawaii up to Canada and down to Mexico, 2014 was surely a year to remember. And along the way, I got to say “I do!” and “Viva Mexico!” January/February 2014: Northern and Central California Given all the travels in 2013, it was time for a bit of break […]

Filling the 4-Year Gap: 2013 Photo Journal

In 2012, I began to find my footing in the world as a location independent consultant. Though it would be my least profitable year as a digital nomad, it allowed me to gain the confidence that I could maintain (and even acquire new) clients while traveling around the globe. As 2013 began, the internal doubts slowly subsided and my adventures hit another level. This year would see me start mostly in California, then take me across the United States to Mexico across the pond to Europe up to Canada, and end the year in Central and South America. January 2013: […]

Filling the 4-Year Gap: 2012 Photo Journal

So now that my 4 year Blogging Blackout Period has ended, perhaps it would be good to start my first series – Filling the 4 Year Gap – with brief photo journals to give you a peek into what I’ve been up to all this time. I used my blogs from 2009-2012 to catalog my adventures and share with friends and family in all parts of the world. But it was tiring trying to keep up with three blogs about three different topics in three different languages. Not to mention, in 2011 I left my corporate job to set out […]

The 4-Year Gap: My Blogging Blackout Period

Wow, a lot has happened in 4 years! Since I last dedicated time to this website or wrote a simple blog post, my life has been quite an adventure. One would think that would have been enough to keep the fire burning to maintain an online presence. Yet for many reasons, some of which I’ll explain in this post, I simply didn’t contribute a single “personal” keyboard stroke to the web during these last four years. The Blackout Period Here’s just a quick snapshot of events in my life over the last nearly 1500 days since my blogging blackout began […]

The Archives (2009-2012)

Three blogs written between 2009-2012 where my passions collided. Each was written in a different language and allowed me to share my experiences in the things I love while refining my skills in the languages that I love. I shared my pilot experiences in English, my traveling experiences in Spanish, and my love of vino in Italian. Enjoy!

My Books

At the end of 2008, I celebrated New Year’s Eve by spending the morning in Paris and the evening partying in Puerta Del Sol in Madrid. That day I decided that one of my three goals for 2009 would be to “be more open.” That can mean a lot of things, including being open enough to share my passions and experiences with others and open to the joys and challenges that may create. What emerged (without plan) during 2009 was the writing, design, and self-publishing of two books – “Who I Am” and “The Two Musketeers.”
