Il Sabato nella Montagna di Santa Cruz (Ridge)

Quasi un’anno fa, il mio amigo Koffi ed io ci siamo incontrati una notte durante provare vino a un posto chiamato Vintage a San Jose. Sin da allora, Lui ed io ci siamo diventati molto buoni amici ed abbiamo diviso molte esperienze interesante col vino. In quel tempo, ho imparato di piu della vita, del io stesso, e del vino. Quasi ogni volta che lui ed io passiamo tempo, mi sento meglio della vita e tutte le esperienze che offre. Questo sabato passato, non era diverso.

Fino a Giovedi, non ho niente per fare questo fine di settimana. Ma, ho mandato un messaggio a lui il giovedi per vedere se lui sarebbe libero questo fine di settimana per fare qualcosa. Lui mi ha mandato un messaggio sopra visitare alcuni vigneti nella montagna di Santa Cruz il Sabato. Gli ho lasciato per decidere a dove vuole andare, quindi ho andato a molti vigneti nella area. Ma, lui ha deciso di andare al vigneto di Ridge – il mio favorito. Per sempre, ho voluto portargli a Ridge per vedere se glielo sarebbe piaciuto.

Abbiamo deciso di incontrare a Whole Foods a Cupertino per comprare un po cibo per il pomeriggio. Abbiamo comprato un po formaggio, proscuitto, cherizo, e pane. Quindi Ridge non aveva il cibo, abbiamo pensato che sarebbe buono per portare un po di cibo e goderlo con una bottiglia di vino fuori dopo del degustazione di vino. Piú tardi, abbiamo scoperto che Ridge non ha niente cibo, neanche crackers. Che peccato!

I Vini Del Giorno

Dopo di un buono giro sulla montagna, siamo arrivati a Ridge e abbiamo goduto le buone viste. Koffi ha deciso che faremmo la degustazione basica, quindi ho comprato il cibo e lui ha pagato per la degustazione. Il primo vino che abbiamo provato era un 2008 East Bench Zinfandel. Io ero un po curioso per provare un Zinfandel che era cosi giovane. Dopo di un sorso, noi tutti sapevamo per che era il primo vino. Non era molto bene….tanto che non l’ho finito. Mi sono sentito male perche per mi, Ridge ha buoni vini e le cose non cominciavano bene per Koffi. Il secondo era un 2007 York Ceek Zinfandel, miscelato con un po di Petite Sirah. Il naso del questo vino era molto migliore. Aveva molta frutta nel naso e il sapore era molto migliore del il primo. Ma ancora, lui non é impressionato. Il prossimo vino, penso, era il migliore della serie – un 2006 Nervo Zinfandel del Dry Creek Valley. Il naso era molto fruttato e con una buona miscela di Petite Sirah, il sapore era buono. Ma, lui ha pensato che c’era qualche cosa mancante. Abbiamo provato tre vini piú ma niente hanno sembrato come un vino squisito di Ridge. Ed ancora, mi sono sentito male. Beh, avevamo provato quasi tutti vini della lista eccetto il Monte Bello.

Il Monte Bello é il migliore vino di Ridge. Nei molto anni, loro hanno vinto premi nelle concorsi del vino per questo vino. E quella é la ragione perche quel vino costa $175 per bottiglia. Non ho provato mai un vino che costa cosi tanto. Ma, dopo del suo primo sorso, ho potuto vedere che Koffi gli piaciuto molto. E dopo del mio primo sorso, ho potuto sentire la differenza. Era quasi come sentiendo un vino come seta. Era perfetto e era tanto lontano sopra i altri vini che non c’era parole per descriverlo. Abbiamo pensato lungo della comprare una mezza bottiglia di Monte Bello ma abbiamo terminato comprando una bottiglia di 2006 Ponzo Zinfandel. Ho avuto Ponzo prima per non sono ricordato qualcuno che ho avuto. Quindi, ho sperato che questo bottiglia sarebbe buono per nostro pomeriggio. Fortunamente, ha un buon gusto e ha andato bene col nostro cibo. Abbiamo passato il prossimo quattro ore parlando sopra nostre viste, le opportunitá, e niente di piú le meraviglie della vite. Alle fine ho penso che Koffi ha avuto un buon tempo e gli piaceva i vini di Ridge.

Primo di noi usciamo per il giorno, l’ho dato a lui una bottiglia del mio vino – Wanderlust – che ho raccogliato il ultimo fine di settimana da Napa. Ma, l’ho detto che lui non puo bevere fino a io apro la mia prima bottiglia. Allora, lui necesita mantenere la bottiglia per un poco. Forse alcuna volta queste estate, io ospiteró una festa di vino in modo che lui e miei altri amici possono provare il mio vino e molti altri. Fino alla prossima volta….buon gusto!

In Inglese: Saturday in the Santa Cruz Mountains (Ridge)

Almost a year ago, my friend Koffi and I met during one night while trying wine at a place called Vintage in San Jose. Since then, he and I have become very good friends and have shared many interesting wine experiences. In that time, I learned more about life, myself, and wine. Almost every time he and I spend time, I feel better about life and all the experiences it offers. This past Saturday, was no different.

Up until Thursday, I had nothing to do this weekend. But, I sent him a message on Thursday to see if he would be free of this  weekend to do something. He sent me a message about visiting some vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Saturday. I let him decide where he wanted to go, since I had been to many vineyards in the area. He decided to go to Ridge Vineyards – my favorite. I’d always wanted to take him to Ridge to see if he would like it.

We decided to meet at Whole Foods in Cupertino to buy some food for the afternoon. We bought some cheese, proscuitto, cherizo, and bread. Since Ridge didn’t have any food, we thought it would be good to bring some food and enjoy a bottle of wine out after tasting the wine. Later, we discovered that Ridge doesn’t even have any food not even crackers. What a pity!

Wines of the Day

After a good ride up the mountain, we reached Rdige and enjoyed the good views. Koffi decided that we would do the basic tasting, since I bought the food and he paid for the tasting. The first wine we tried was a 2008 Zinfandel East Bench. I was a bit curious to try a Zinfandel that was so young. After a sip, we both knew why it was the first wine. It was not very good…so much that I didn’t finish it. I felt bad because for me Ridge has good wines and things didn’t start well for Koffi. The second was a 2007 Zinfandel York Ceek, blended with a bit of Petite Sirah. The nose of this wine was much better. It had a lot of fruit on the nose and the taste was much better than the first. But still, he was not impressed. The next wine – the best in the series – was a 2006’s Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Nervo. The nose was very fruity and with a good blend of Petite Sirah, the flavor was good. But he thought there was something missing. We tried three more wines but nothing seemed like an exquisite Ridge wine. And still, I felt bad. Well, we had tried almost all wines on the list except the Monte Bello.

The Monte Bello is the best Ridge wine. In several years, they have won prizes in wine competitions for this wine. And that is the reason why that wine costs $ 175 per bottle. I’ve never tried a wine that costs so much. But after his first sip, I could see that Koffi liked it alot. After my first sip, I could taste the difference. It was almost like tasting a silky wine. It was perfect and was so far above the other wines that there were no words to describe it. We thought long about buying a half bottle of Monte Bello, but we ended up buying a bottle of 2006 Zinfandel Ponzo. I had the Ponzo before but I couldn’t remember which one that I had. So I hoped that this bottle would be good for our afternoon. Fortunately, it tasted good and went well with our food. We spent the next four hours talking about our perspectives, opportunities, and nothing more than the wonders of life. In the end I think that Koffi had a good time and liked the wines of Ridge.

Before we left for the day, I gave him a bottle of my wine – Wanderlust – that I picked the last weekend from Napa. But, I said told him that can’t drink until I open my first bottle. So, he needs to keep the bottle for a while. Perhaps at some point this summer, I will host a celebration of wine so that he and my other friends can try my wine and many others.
