Vino Tra Amici – Silver Mountain Vineyards e Brown Estate

Quasi un mezzo anno fa, Koffi ed io siamo andati a Santa Cruz per assaggiare vino nella zona si chiama “Swift Street.” É una zona con molti posti per assaggiare vino dai vigneti nella regione di Santa Cruz come Bonny Doon, Copius, Hillcrest Terrace, e Silver Mountain Vineyards. Ma, il sabato scorso era la prima volta che Kaitlyn é stata a Santa Cruz per assaggiare vino e la prima volta che Koffi e Kaitlyn si sono conosciuti.

Il tempo quel giorno in Santa Cruz ha fatto un buono…meraviglioso…e quindi Kaitlyn ed io siamo andati a Kelly’s Bakery per far colazione e aspettare per Koffi. La panetteria ha avuto un menu grande con tutte le cose da pane e panini a dessert e caffè. Era troppo di pensare per me, ma eventualmente ho preso un cornetto con salmone affumicato, l’uovo, e avocado. Era buonissimo e lo raccomanderei per qualcuno nell’aerea di Santa Cruz per colazione.

Una volta che Koffi é arrivato, tutti di noi abbiamo fatto una passeggiata sotto il sole brillante a due stanze di assaggiare – Copius e Hillcrest Terrace. Purtroppo, nessuno dei due erano aperti anche se era dopo del mezzogiorno – il tempo che le due hanno detto che sarebbero aperti. Invece, siamo andati a Silver Mountain Vineyards, uno che Koffi ed io abbiamo visitato quasi un mezzo anno fa.

Silver Mountain Vineyards

Dato che non era stato molto tempo da quando lui ed io abbiamo visitato il vigneto, molti dei vini erano gli stessi come prima. Ma la buona cosa circa il loro menu é che hanno avuto quasi 10 vini sulla lista e si prova 5 per $5. Questo tempo ho scelto 5 e Kaitlyn anche ha scelto 5 ma non erano gli stessi dei miei. Ecco qui sono le mie note dei vini che ho provato:

• 2008 Chardonnay – Niente interessante
• 2006 Pinot Noir Tondré da Santa Lucia – Niente interessante
• 2002 Zinfandel – Ha un sapore come era fabbricato
• 2006 Syrah – Un buon naso che comincia bene ma il fine era “blah”
• 2003 Alloy (Stilo di Bordeaux) – Un buon naso ma niente di realmente interessante
• 2004 Alloy – Il naso più debole ma il sapore era pieno e liscio
• 2006 Cabernet – Un naso buonissimo che non é come un Cab normale e buon dall’inizio alla fine con molto frutto sul naso – più di un Cab normale.

Nel fine, Kaitlyn ha comprato una promozione speciale dei tre vini – due che ci piacevano (il 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon ed il 2006 Syrah) e uno che non ci piacevano molto (il Tondré Pinot Noir)

Brown Estate

Pochi giorni dopo del nostro tempo in Santa Cruz, io sono andato per bevande con i miei amici, Marc e Christianne, dopo di una settimana lunga del lavoro. Ci abbiamo incontrato a un ristorante in Redwood City, CA, si chiama “John Bentley’s.” Era il mio primo tempo lì ma Christianne c’é stata molte volte. Quando Marc ed io siamo arrivati, lei già ha ordinato una bottiglia di Zinfandel da Brown Estate – un vigneto di Napa. Lei mi ha detto del vino molte volte ma non ho mai avuto l’opportunità per provarlo. Dopo del mio primo sorso, ho saputo perche lei le piace il vino. Per uno Zinfandel, il vino non é pesante…anche se contenga 15.5% di alcol. La frutta era vivido ma non era opprimente (appena come il vino da Ceja che ho avuto la settimana scorsa).Abbiamo avuto due bottiglie in totale con due altri amici dal lavoro e era un buon modo per terminare la settimana di lavoro.

Adesso, ho bisogno di trovare più vini di Brown e vedere se la qualità dei altri é lo stesso.

In Inglese: Wine Among Friends – Silver Mountain Vineyards and Brown Estate

About a half-year ago, Koffi and I went to Santa Cruz to taste wine in the area called “Swift Street.” It’s an area with many places to taste wine from vineyards in the Santa Cruz area like, Bonny Doon, Copius, Hillcrest Terrace, and Silver Mountain Vineyards. But, last Saturday was the first time that Kaitlyn has been in Santa Cruz to taste wine and the first time that Koffi and Kaitlyn met each other.

The weather that day in Santa Cruz was great … wonderful … and so Kaitlyn and I went to Kelly’s Bakery for breakfast and to wait for Koffi. The bakery had a great menu with everything from bread and rolls to dessert and coffee. It was too much to think about for me, but eventually I got a croissant with smoked salmon, eggs, and avocado. It was very good and I would recommend it to anyone in the Santa Cruz area for breakfast.

Once Koffi arrived, we all took a walk under the brillant sunlight to two wine tasting rooms -Copius and Hillcrest Terrace. Unfortunately, neither of the two were open even though it was after noon – the time that the two said they would open. Instead, we went to Silver Mountain Vineyards, one that Koffi and I visited almost a half year ago.

Silver Mountain Vineyards

Since it was not long ago that he and I visited the vineyard, many of the wines were the same as before. But the good thing about their menu is that they had about 10 wines on the list and you can try 5 for $ 5. This time I chose 5 and Kaitlyn also chose 5 but they were not the same as mine. Here are my notes of wines I tried:

• 2008 Chardonnay – Nothing interesting
• 2006 Pinot Noir from Tondra Saint Lucia – Nothing interesting
• 2002 Zinfandel – It tastes like it was manufactured
• 2006 Syrah – A good nose that starts well but the finish was “blah”
• 2003 Alloy (Bordeaux Style) – A good nose, but nothing too interesting
• 2004 Alloy – A weaker nose but the taste was full and smooth
• 2006 Cabernet – A very good nose that is not like a normal Cab and good start to finish with alot fruit on the nose – more than a normal cab.

In the end, Kaitlyn bought a special promotion of three wines – two that we liked (the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2006 Syrah) and one that we didn’t really like (the Tondré Pinot Noir). 


Brown Estate

A few days after our time in Santa Cruz, I went for drinks with my friends, Marc and Christianne, after a long week of work. We met at a restaurant in Redwood City, CA, called “John Bentley’s.” It was my first time there but Christianne had been there many times. When Marc and I arrived, she had already ordered a bottle of Zinfandel from Brown Estate – a vineyard in Napa. She told me about the wine several times but I never had the opportunity to try it. After my first sip, I knew why she likes it. For a Zinfandel, the wine is not heavy…even though it contains 15.5% alcohol. The fruit was vibrant but not overwhelming (just like the wine from Ceja I had last week). We had two bottles in total with two other friends from work and it was a good way to end the workweek.

Now, I need to find more wines from Brown and see if the quality of the others is the same.
