Una Juana, Unos Sapos, y Todos Son de México

Posted on Dec 5, 2009

Me suena bien y divertido!

En Inglés: (One Juanas, Some Frogs, and Everything from Mexico)

Well, even though it looks like I did not do much with Spanish and traveling in November, as I did not upload anything for the month, my Spanish studies have continued. After my trip in October, I needed a little time to rest, to save some money and take care of my plane-related things. Between that time, I did a few things in Spanish which increased my knowledge of Spanish and my desire to travel.

The first thing was that I finished the second and last season of my favorite soap opera (Las Juanas). More than a year ago, I rented the first season discs from the library (once in a while, I used to rent discs of Spanish movies or telenovelas to help me with my learning). And earlier in the year I realized I was not going to be able to rent the second season from the library. And so I bought the two seasons from Amazon, because I knew it would be a good way to help me learn. The reason I really like the soap opera is that you have actors from other films and soap operas I’ve seen in the past. Most telenovelas I’ve seen are from the channel Azteca America, and many of its programs are from Mexico (remember that!) The other reason I like it is that the telenovela is very funny. Although there is some drama, it was written as a comedy. And it was a good story. Well, after 16 discs and more than 84 hours, my show is over. Tear! 🙂

And so I needed something to fill the hole, and since I do not watch much TV except sports or Spanish videos. Like before, I went to the library to see if there new videos. I found a movie with a woman from Las Juanas (Ana Serradilla), called “Tired of Kissing Frogs.” It was a good, funny movie and the kind I needed at that time. The film was shot in Mexico, D.F. (remember that) and showed a bit of the city. And now this is where the story gets a little twisted.

I was looking for songs from the film and found that one of its songs was from the group called La Quinta Estacíon. And I realized that I have another song of theirs. And so I decided to buy two albums of thiers on iTunes, Flores Alquiler and Sin Frenos. I like them alot and they helped me to learn a little Spanish. And also, the group is from Mexico (see the connections?). Originally, people in the group are from Madrid (another place I like), but they went to Mexico to pursue their dreams. At the end of this post, I put a few songs that I like for you to view. I hope you like them as well.

Now that I’m not going to Argentina this month for my birthday, I hope I can go in 2010. However, may be I can go to Mexico for a weekend, so I can get my dose of a Spanish trip. I’ve been looking for flights and hotels for a weekend in Mexico City or another city. But I do not want to go to Mexico and have the same vacation that I can have here in California. So, it means a vacation with beaches, a large hotel, and many American tourists. I can do that in Monterey (CA), San Diego, or Santa Barbara. I want to go and see people, have good food, do something different than I can do in California, like taking a day trip to the ruins or visit a nice wine bar in the city and talk to people about wine in Spanish. It sounds good and fun! Now, I just need to read more sobre Mexico and see if I should go to Mexico City or other city like Monterrey and Guadalajara. We’ll see … but until my trip to Paris in May, I need something to fill the space in my schedule. And there’s a long weekend in the middle of January. 🙂

Here are a few songs by La Quinta Estación that I like. Enjoy them!
